Karmessa (born Karmessa L. Padgett) is a rising R&B/pop-soul performing artist, songwriter, music educator, and businesswoman. Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, she began singing in her church and community choir at a young age. In high school, she began to show a deeper interest in a singing career, which led her to earn a choir scholarship from Alabama A&M University. During her matriculation at AAMU, she began singing with the Earth, Wind & Fire-inspired band, Element XI.
She continues to perform locally with Element XI and is now a touring background vocalist for season 2, American Idol winner, Ruben Studdard.
Karmessa’s passion for learning has landed her teaching positions with the Arts Huntsville’s Arts Integration program as well as a pop vocal coaching & songwriting position for Maitland Conservatory. She is also currently an entertainment industry/music business student at the University of North Alabama.
Karmessa’s solo artist journey started with a bang, as her debut single entitled “Betta” is available on all digital music platforms. With a message of empowering and intense confidence, she is the voice of the real woman with experiences that sparks a variety of characteristics. She stands for strong black women, who are innovative, God-fearing and confident, but aren’t perfect and don’t declare to be.
